CitID Project: Design For Your City
Lately, I’ve been exploring thoughts of civic/city pride. Some people don’t think Houston is anything-special, and I often get riled-up trying to defend the Space City. And now I have another way, other than picking fights with people from Dallas, to express my Houston Pride – The CitID Project.
CitID is a project where designers and artists from around the world are encouraged to create a visual interpretation of the city closest to their heart. Ultimately, the goal is for every city worldwide to have its identity on CitID within a unique collection of global designs depicting various styles and trends. Selected designs will later be published in a CitID book.
The project is still in an early phase. Designs from about 150 cities worldwide have already been received and published – Houston isn’t represented yet. The quality of the work is of course varying. Check-out a few of the designs found on the site, while you ponder what your submission is going to be. I better get to work on something for H-Town.

Pilot Custom Handwriting Font
Pilot (the pen company) has come up with an application where you can create your very own handwriting on your computer then use it as a font to send emails. If only I actually liked my handwriting…this site might be more of a gem. Even so, it is very creative marketing.
NIKE MUSIC SHOE
There must be very few people who do not recognize the Nike Swoosh logo. Their design culture and advertising choices are typically top-notch. That’s why there is not surprise that this Nike Music Shoe commercial is simply awesome. Kudos to Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo.
Up There: Hand-Painted Advertising Documentary
Up There is a gorgeous short documentary on the dying industry of big city, big scale, hand painted advertising. All I can say is “WOW.” I wonder if there are any of these artist in Houston. Makes me feel a little guilty for all the vinyl billboards I’ve created in my short time. These guys are amazing. True artists.
“They can’t print what we paint. They print in pixels.”

Neutraface meets Lady GaGa
I came across this video today on the blog “Jesus Hates Papyrus” and I just had to share.
1) Because I love a little font comedy (kind of like Prop Comedy)
2) Because I love a good spoof video.
So take off that shabby old Helvetica and get your Neutraface on.

Does the Internet know you better than your Mom?
Personas is a fascinating site that shows you how the Internet sees you. When you enter your name into the site, it scours the Internet for content to create a visual portrait of your personality. I decided to give it a try and what I found was mostly accurate. However, some of the words changed each time I started the search over. So not sure what that really means.
